Sometimes a decision is necessary

And sometimes you just need to change your orientation.

Action can be tempting, because we feel a sense of certainty that there is movement.

But in some cases movement is unnecessary.

If you want to be a better father, you don’t need to buy all your kids kites or suddenly take them out for ice cream.

That action might be a flash in the pan.

But a new orientation could be long lasting.

How does a great father see the world? What situations and occurrences call you in a different way from that new orientation?

How does this new way of seeing the world naturally filter and affect your choices?

Wrapping paper

I’m a big believer in wrapping paper.

I’m mostly fine with people speaking their mind. If I’m in the way, tell me. If I’m being too loud, please let me know.

My problem comes when people put it in the wrong wrapping paper.

For example, someone is speaking a little too loud. You can tell them to ‘shut up’. Or you can gently let them know know.

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.

You can say the difficult thing, but you can do it with kindness, levity and generosity.

I’m a BIG believer in wrapping paper.

Games

Why playing games is good for families.

-There’s a shared low stakes goal.

-Everyone is focussing on the same thing.

-Different combinations of people have to deal with the difficulty of losing (and winning)

There’s a reason actors use games in a rehearsal process. They’re building connection, emotion and love.

Might be time to get a pack of cards out.
