Beliefs

All will be well

Everything will more or less be okay.

We don’t have to hold on tightly to everything, we can just show up with grace and know that all will be well.

Words don’t describe, they create

The things that happen to us are meaningless.

It’s only once we put words to it that we create a meaning.

“That destroyed me when he said that”

Vs.

“I was intrigued by how he came to that when he said that”

This isn’t just optimism or a good spin on things.

Your words have the power to create or destroy.

To lift you up or make you feel helpless.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking your words describe your reality.

Realise that you create your reality with your words.

How you think about it

We all know what we need to do to get what we want, more or less.

The trouble isn’t the recipe, it’s the implimentation.

Our focus then shouldn’t be on finding more recipes, but how to get ourselves to use that ones we have.

The trick is how you think about the thing you need to do.

You want to get fit, you know you need to get more daily steps in, but when you think about walking you think about dying trying to get up a steep hill.

If you can take the thing you want to do and think about it in a way that makes you excited to do it, that’s when life starts getting interesting.

It’s always a good idea

This morning I hummed and ahh’d about planning my day out.

“I’ll just get started now”

“By the time I plan it I could be well underway with what actually matters”

Let me tell you, it’s ALWAYS a good idea to plan your day.

Clarity of objective, intention and a scheduled time to complete it is unbeatable.

It takes way less time than you think

There’s a great discovery waiting for you. If you’re like me, you have a lot of things you’d love to get done across a day.

The ones that take precedence are the ones like cooking dinner, getting ready for work, doing the washing, showering and a hundred other things a human has to do to function daily.

The things that tend to take a back seat are the ones that will actually make a difference to your life.

Things like meditating, planning some healthy meals for tomorrow (because you know you won’t have time tomorrow), reading a book.

These things don’t seem urgent, and they aren’t really- urgent is for things that you need to do to survive or at the very least to not experience too much unpleasantness…

But who wants a life of just surviving? The good life is about finding ample time for the things that aren’t urgent but that really matter.

For me, it’s my daily voice bubbling exercise, it’s taking time to actually plan my day (before merely reacting to email), it’s the breathing technique I learned that I really want to get better at.

Today, I happened to have Spotify playing while I did my non-urgent but important tasks.

I realised I had a very limiting thought about all these tasks “They take too long”

Well, Spotify disagreed:

My bubbling exercise took two songs to complete.

Planning my day? One song

The breathing exercise? Yup, that was one song as well.

Three tasks that will change your life over time in the span of just 4 songs.

The big discovery is this: the things you want to do that you’ve been putting off take way less time than you think.

To prove it to yourself, put on your favourite song and do the pile of dishes you’ve been avoiding.

I bet you you’ll be done by the end of the song.

Once you beleive me, choose one of those magic life changing tasks and put another song on to find out the exciting truth:

It takes way less time than you think.

Stressor

I made a tiny breakthrough today.

Here I was thinking that pushing through is a what a resilient person does. Turns out it’s what a ‘stressor’ does.

Turns out there are three types of people:

The dabbler is someone who dabbles in things but it doesn’t last. They’ll do it something while feels good then stop the minute it gets hard.

The stressor is someone who stresses as they push through to achieve what they want. They try and get things perfect and that actually causes resistance and stunts their growth.

The master is someone who practices the fundamentals every day. They aren’t afraid of taking a few steps back to take more steps forward. They also understand that success is a long game and it’s rare to see progress up close.

You don’t get any points for stressing your way through. Sure, it feels like you’re working really hard, but feeling like your working isn’t the same as being effecting.

I know which of the three I’d like to be.

All you need

If we can choose beliefs…

…and we act in accordance with the beliefs that we have…

…then we should probably choose beliefs that serve us.

For instance: you have everything you need already within you to do all you ever want to do.

If that were true, how would your life be different?

Might be time to adopt the belief aye?

Holiday

I like the word holiday.

Labels are good, not only to retrospectively label an experience…

…but also to decide what an experience will be in advance.

You can call anything a holiday and it’ll feel a little different.

I’m away for exactly two nights, and I’ve decided it’s a holiday.

And it feels lovely.

Passion cuts through

You might not need killer productivity

Or the best ideas

and you might not to be the best.

All you need it passion. That vital SPARK that emboldens others, makes them their best and brings out your best.

I’m pretty sure just priming this state each day is about 80% of the battle.
